A hundred days and one 5k

The entry is paid and the date is in the diary, which felt decisive for about a week. What decides it now is a hundred ordinary days between the confirmation email and the start line.

A race date is a deadline, not a structure

between entry and start line

The date is too far away to biteA deadline in three months exerts no pressure in week four. It arrives suddenly, in the last fortnight, when there is nothing useful left to do.
The plan assumes every session happensTraining plans are written for a person who never has a bad week. Yours will have several, and the plan has no instruction for what to do afterwards.
Nobody is waiting for your sessionBetween signing up and turning up, no one checks. The entry fee is the only thing holding the thing together, and it stops working around week three.

Reasonable questions

Will this get me round the 5k?

No programme can promise a finish and we do not. What this gives you is a hundred days that actually happened, with the training you chose inside them.

Do you write my training plan?

No. Bring the plan you trust — free ones are plentiful. We hold the daily structure and the group.

Is running required every day?

No. The day's task is yours, and rest days written as the task count. Most plans for a first 5k have more rest days than run days.

My race is in eleven weeks, not a hundred days. Does that matter?

No. The hundred days do not have to end on race day — plenty of people keep counting past it.

Is there a coach reviewing my sessions?

No. There is no coaching here, personal or otherwise. The group reads your reports, and you own the training decisions.

how it runs

3 1 ∞ tasks, morning report, night people reading it
  1. 01 Three tasks, one of them usually from your plan The session, plus whatever else the day needs. Written in the morning so the evening cannot redraft it.
  2. 02 The evening report is the training log What you did, what you skipped, how it felt. By race week you can read the whole build, including the weeks you improvised.
  3. 03 Count alongside people with their own dates Different races, same hundred days. Reading someone's day 60 when you are on day 60 is what keeps a distant date present.

Day 100

Race day, with a hundred logged days behind it — including the ones that went badly and got written down anyway.

what we can point at

Race calendars cluster. Your hundred days should aim at that.

RunSignup's 2025 race report — more than 97,000 events and 12.2 million registrations — found 26% of the year's races held in September or October, with a similar spring cluster and a very slow winter. source

The NHS Couch to 5K plan is free — nine weeks, three runs a week. Many people here run it as their training content while the hundred days carry the consistency. source
