Trackers, streaks and spreadsheets

The spreadsheet is immaculate. The manuscript is not.

There is a daily target, conditional formatting for the misses, and a chart that has been flat since February. Counting is solved. What remains unsolved is that nothing whatsoever happens when a cell stays empty.

where this comes from

The tools exist. The witness is the missing part.

4thewords turns writing into a game of quests and monsters and keeps Streak Saving on its paid tiers — the streak is the product. source
—
Writers' Hour, free from London Writers' Salon, runs four times each weekday and counts no words at all; the fixed hour is the whole offer. source

what a tracker cannot do

Measurement is not pressure

What a hundred days tends to look like

Replacing quotas with tasks. Awkward for anyone used to writing towards a number.

how it runs

Three tasks in the morning, one report at night

01Three named tasks instead of a number"Finish the hospital scene" beats "1,000 words" at seven in the morning, because it has already been decided.
02A report a person readsNot a cell in a sheet. Short text at the end of the day, in front of the group you started with.
03A fixed hundred-day windowEveryone counting the same days, so the comparison is with other people rather than with your own best month.

Reasonable questions

Do I have to hit a word target?

No. There is no quota anywhere in the programme.

Can I keep using my tracker?

Of course. The report is separate from whatever you count and however you count it.

Is there an app?

The daily loop is text: your three tasks in the morning, your report at night.

What gets shared with the group?

The report you write. Not your word count, unless you choose to put it in there.

When does the next hundred days start?

On a fixed date. Leave an email and we send it.

A hundred days that someone actually reads

Leave an email and we will write when the next group opens. No payment is taken on this page.
